It can be quite fun to exercise outside. We have previously listed some great outdoor fitness trends. However, there are also great healthy reasons to make an outdoor workout. Curious? Read on … Psst. Did you know our supplements can help you with these things as well? Take a look at our supplements here
- Boost Your Mood
Just being in touch with nature can have a great impact on your mood. It does not even have to be what we typically would categorise as “great weather”. A rainy day can also do it! Several studies have shown that spending time outside can be somehow therapeutic. A sweaty outdoor workout supports the cardiovascular system, which has shown to be as effective as anti-depressive medicine. During heart-pumping actives, the body releases endorphins. These hormones are known to be the body’s natural pain medication hormones. Try to skip the fitness center once in a while and replace it with an outdoor exercise!
- Boost Your Memory
Scientists are constantly trying to find a way to boost memory. A myth goes that we only use 10% of our brain. We are not here to clarify whether that myth is true or not. But what we can tell you is that outdoor workouts can help improving your memory! In a study published in Perceptual and Motor Skills, 20% of women who performed a running exercise did better in a memory test than they did before running. Several other studies support this research. A new study has even found that outdoor exercises can make structural changes in your brain, which permanently will improve your memory!
- Increase Your Metabolism
Studies have shown that we burn about 5 percent more calories when the temperature is around freezing than we would on an ordinary sunny day! 5 percent more calories is equal to 100-150 calories for one hour of running for most of us. Is that motivation enough for you? I think so!
- Increase Your Energy
We have all tried the feeling of not having enough energy. However, even just a brisk walk outside can create miracles! Just 20 minutes outside have shown to make you as fresh as a cup of coffee.
- Get Some D-Vitamins
Sun light is a great source for D-Vitamins. Try to run while it is still bright outside. Vitamin D is important for healthy bones and keeps our muscles strong and healthy.
