The mobile phone is an essential part of our modern life. People are expected to be reachable 24/7. Indeed, some work might require people to be available 24 hours a day. The truth is, however, that it’s only a very small amount of people compared to the total population. We should allow ourselves to be offline at night. Don’t believe us? Here are 4 very good reasons to why we should turn off our phones before going to bed.
Who does not know this feeling? Give yourself a good night’s sleep without interruptions to reduce fatigue and exhaustion.
1. Avoid Being Awake at Night
You finally fell asleep. Suddenly, your phone starts ringing. It’s your drunken friend, calling to know if you want to join him and his friends at the local pub. You had already explained to him three times earlier that you had to work the following day. Now, your body is restless and you might get no more than a shallow sleep.
2. Sleep Faster and Better
It is scientifically proven that the light level of electronic devices can increase the level of sleep disorders. Try to avoid looking on bright screens two to three hours before bedtime. You can change the brightness settings manually on most electronic devices. Try also to be exposed as much as you can for daylight during the day as it will boost your ability to sleep at night.
3. Avoid Temptations to Check Your Phone
This section is a pitfall for most of us. We are quick to check our phones if we wake up during the night – almost like a zombie. However, studies have shown that this habit has a crucial impact on our sleep. Our brain simply stops to exemplify melatonin, when we use our mobile phone before bedtime or during the night – the hormone that makes us feel tired. Hence, the optimal solution is to turn our mobile phone off completely.
4. Be Present
There is no such thing as being present in the moment. The social media will also be there tomorrow. We sleep because our bodies need to be refuelled. If you are one of those who wake up during the night once in a while, then seize the moment instead of using your phone! Think about how great it is to have a few more hours to sleep in. When I was young I used to set an alarm 4 AM just so I could enjoy the feeling of having more hours left to sleep in … how great is that?
… I have a hard time falling asleep at night. What to do?
It is not unusual to have a hard time falling asleep. Try to add supplements containing magnesium to your normal diet. Several studies have shown that the mineral has positive effects on the ability to fall into a deep and restless sleep. Our Q-Complex contains organic magnesium, which you can purchase here.
